Thinking About Lighting!!!!!!!!

Here's Steven, deep in thought, on the way to the house on Saturday. This weekend was devoted to lighting, and probably the next three will be too. We are very fortunate that Steven knows how to do this stuff. He's just freaked out by the code. When we rewired our house back east there was no building code, no inspector. You didn't have to worry about how far the staples were set apart, if you drilled the holes in the right places, etc. The codes are there for a reason, but it sure makes this process take a heck of a lot longer than we ever imagined. Steven's had many a sleepless night trying to figure out how to get the homeruns from the garage into the house...

The view going down the hill, just before you round the bend to our house. I have to pinch myself when I think about where we live, where we are going to live, and just how lucky we are to be here!

Just before the bend in the road... What a view!

Here's a picture of some of the lighting handywork. This part is going much slower than I had anticipated. We had the lighting plan essentially done on paper, but how it looks on paper and how it plays out amongst all those trusses and varying ceiling heights doesn't always work. We've been finding that out with every can we set. Pulling the wire is yet another story. Trying to find the appropriate pathway for the miles of wire we have to pull is no small undertaking. That's not something you can plan on paper, so here we go - slowly!

The roof is done! I'm sure glad we didn't take that on too. Just being up there to paint the trim was scary enough. I can hardly wait until we have to do the siding - fitting it up there where the two roofs meet. It is impossibly tight. Who designed that crazy space anyway? Oh, it was us? Yeah. Yeah.

Last night we spent way too long building a soffit. More thinking...very little wiring. We need soffits in the office and the foyer to create enough space for the insulation. The trusses should have had heels and then we wouldn't worry about how we are going to get R30 for the first 30 inches of the southerly side of the house. Steven talked to the insulation contractor and they said this happens all of the time. There seems there is a disconnect between each of these contractors...
