Magic ball, will the plumbing be finished today?... I see it in your future!
Well, it's been a week since the plumbing was supposed to be finished. The plumber ran into one problem after another last Monday and we ended up with two bathroom sinks and a shower hooked up. That would have been okay, but the Rinnai froze over the cold snap and a valve split. So, no hot water for us! Hopefully, that's all that went wrong with the Rinnai and we will have hot water, a kitchen sink and toilets today. The reason we have no toilets is so frustrating. When the initial plumbers did the rough-in, they anticipated the tight fitting toilet and put the waste pipe in the proper place, but they failed to install the water supply in the right place. So, when the finish plumbers came in, they couldn't put the toilet up against the wall - the water supply was in the way. Now, I have two new holes/patches in my walls to support the moving of the water supply lines. War wounds! We want our plumbing! We want our plumbing! The "fun," if you can call it that, of going out in the middle of the night to pee is getting really old!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steven went to Seattle yesterday to get some new fandagled tools that allow him to cut wood perfectly straight and join it with tiny little biscuits. We got to play with it for a little while before it started raining too hard. We started cutting the wood for our bar top. Steven bought quarter sawn red oak, and we are going to stain it with a black dye mixed with alcohol. It will look like ebony - we hope!
Marsha and Rod have been helping us with trim. They got started on Friday but were stalled by our guys from Paramatrix Stone that have been building our shower stall. So, they start again today and we should have trim complete in the office and guest bedroom. This stuff is so slow!
We are waiting on all kinds of things we've ordered. Everything has been delayed due to flooding across the state. Before Christmas it was snow. I'm starting to question the halo around UPS' trucks. They can't seem to get things where they need to be on time. Fortunately, the things we needed to make the closet doors arrived. Now, if we can just find true 3/4" finished hemlock we'll be all set. It appears that the lumber mills are making things smaller than usual and it's screwing us up on our doors. Steven says he's going to put in door blanks temporarily, until we can get an order from one of the specialty lumber yards. I'm not necessarily opposed to just getting something up, but I worry about how long it will take to get the real doors made when there is no looming deadline!
So, if I didn't already tell you, all of the floors are done! We got the last tile floor done a week ago Sunday. It was a good feeling to put that behind us. We were dreading doing the job, but it feels great now that it is done.
The next big thing is final inspection/occupancy. We have a bunch of little things that have to get done before we get signed off and the bank converts our loan. I thought all we had to have done was the final electric and plumbing inspections, but I was mistaken. It's hussle time! With that, I'll leave you for now... Hopefully, it won't be another ten days before I can hop on here for an update.
