Fireplace Nearing Completion
The fireplace underwent a miraculous transformation. We decided that it needed to be very simple and clean. After all the tile samples we looked at just didn't cut it, we decided to take a chance and cover the hardibacker panels with thinset mortar last night. This afternoon we took sandpaper and a wire brush to each of the panels, creating texture that makes the panels look like concrete. After the texture we experimented with paint colors. The thin set was too unstable to leave it alone and just a bit off color for what we were looking for. We tried our ceiling color, our ceiling color mixed with one of the wall colors, and finally decided on the same color as the wall the fireplace sets infront of. It keeps the room from appearing smaller than it really is. We really like it. The panels are screwed up temporarily. We've got to get one more piece of aluminum to finish it off. I can't wait for you to see it...
