Is There Anything Final About Final Inspection????

Well, two people yesterday were lamenting about the building inspector on the south end of the island - with good cause!!! As you might well have guessed, we did not pass our final inspection. Heck, the inspector never came into the house. He had a laundry list of things for us to do outside, including landings at the bottom of stairs. Landings?????

Our front stairs are eleven feet long. In the dead of winter, in bone chilling temperatures, in the dark no less, we were putting in 33 sq. feet of landing. The ground was frozen. We had no proper bed of sand. It sucks, and we'll have to do it all over again in the spring. I just love doing things for the heck of it, wasting precious time!

We got about half-way through the landing project and Steven sent me inside to paint a wood block that needs to go on the house around the wires to the heat pump. After that short, sweet project I was off to tick off my inside list. I got all of the caulking between hardwood floors and tile done - 6 transitions. They look great! The floors are officially done.

As I'm typing I'm hearing all kinds of noises from the great outdoors. The wind is howling out there. I'm really thankful that we decided to get the landing done last night and not put it off until today. Steven really couldn't take time off with his schedule. As it is, he has to go to the county today and draw the decks onto the plans that weren't on the plans so the county can tax us!

We have one more hurdle to traverse before we can call the inspector back to finish the "final inspection." It seems that we were supposed to get a final inspection on the septic system after we got the final electrical inspection. We are waiting for the designer/builder to contact the health inspector. Arghh! There is so much coordination that goes into building a house. It's a full time job! So, hopefully that falls into place today, since we are running out of days in February and we have to have our appraiser in before the end of the month...
